Magic & Memories
Free Summer Projects
Looking for some fun sewing projects to get you through the summer? We’ve compiled a number of free patterns that are perfect for the summer months. So, grab a cool drink (sit it away from the fabric), turn on the sewing machine (and possibly a fan!), and enjoy creating one of these adorable projects to celebrate summer!
This fun and fruity table topper is created using a quilt-as-you-go method to add pieced rows at the same time as you layer batting and backing. The finished piece measures 10 ¼” x 14” (plus leaves) and is perfect for the tabletop at a summer get-together.
MOD MELONS QUILT
From Suzy Quilts (in Partnership with Birch Fabrics)
Inspired by another favorite summer fruit, this delightful Modern quilt pattern features rows of watermelon wedges…including optional seeds (you can also make these watermelons “seedless”). Added bonus: Suzy also includes a recipe for a watermelon cocktail HERE. Though, we advise sewing your curves before enjoying the cocktail.
OVERSIZED BEACH BAG
From PolkaDot Chair
This large tote is great for the beach, the lake, or the pool and can be easily customized to match your style! The bag includes a small interior pocket for your phone or sunglasses, cotton rope handles, and adorable pom-pom trim.
ICE CREAM WALL ART
Treat yourself! This foundation-pieced ice cream cone block can be framed as wall décor or incorporated into a larger quilt project. Pictured using Prisma Dyes fabric by Lunn Studios for Robert Kaufman, but can easily be customized using favorite fabrics to create a different “flavor.”
DEEP BLUE SEA BABY QUILT
From Kitchen Table Quilting
This ocean-inspired Modern baby (or lap)
quilt features scalloped layers of waves in
gorgeous blue hues. The project is a great
introduction to curves, comes together
quickly, and can be easily quilted
with “wavy” lines.
From Purl Soho
Great for a cool glass of iced tea (or something a little stronger!), these colorful, felt coasters are hand sewn and easy to take as a project-on-the-go. The felt makes these coasters more durable…and let’s be honest, just makes them even more adorable.
SUMMER FUN WALLHANGING
From The Crafty Quilter
If you’re looking for a fun project
to work on a bit at a time over
the summer, this adorable
wallhanging is a great option!
The Crafty Quilter’s Summer Fun
Quilt Along (originally posted last
year) allows makers to create
each part of the quilt in separate
sections…or taking on the entire
project at once! See the individual
links for each section of the quilt
on the main Summer Fun Quilt Along page.
